Previous answers are correct in that a blank datafile should solve your problem.
As for connectivity, you can also use an ODBC connection. The only disadvantage there is you have to configure the connection on every machine you want to run the 4D front-end. Then you specify that ODBC connection in your 4D database to be the data source using SQL LOGIN.
